Holyoke Gas & Electric is continuing important upgrades to the Holyoke Dam by replacing the pneumatic flashboard system, commonly known as inflatable rubber bladders, located along the crest of the Holyoke Dam.
The existing rubber bladder system was installed in 2001 and is nearing the end of its useful life. Replacing the system will help ensure the long-term reliability and operation of the dam. When installed, the inflatable crest system replaced a flashboard system dating back to 1900.
Construction is progressing well, with two of the five sections completed and work underway on the final three sections. The timing of the work is closely tied to river flows, but we anticipate completion this fall.
HG&E appreciates the public's patience as these improvements are completed and remains committed to maintaining the safe, reliable operation of our local hydroelectric infrastructure.
Additional information will be incorporated into HG&E's construction activity.
