Rebates

Rebates available below for qualifying appliances, heating & cooling systems and weatherization projects!

Please review the general requirements and equipment-specific requirements below before applying. Customers have the option to have the payment sent as a check from HG&E or as an on-bill credit. If a check is requested, payment is typically send approx. 2-3 weeks after the application has been approved. Additional incentives may be available for the equipment or service type, such as the Residential Energy Conservation Program, which provides financial assistance at 0% interest for qualifying energy efficiency projects. Please review the eligibility criteria for the various additional incentives thoroughly as the requirements differ for each program type. Please contact us with any questions at efficiency@hged.com or call us at (413) 536-9300.

General Requirements for All Rebates:
• Customer must have an active electric account with HG&E.
• The building where the equipment is being installed or where services are being performed must be a residential building with an active HG&E account. (Landlords are eligible as long as work is performed within a residential building).
• Qualified equipment and services must be purchased within the given program year and applications must be submitted by May 31st of the following year. (Note: Customers will have until May 31, 2021 to submit applications for rebates for eligible appliances purchased or installations completed in 2020 and will be subject to the 2020 rebate levels.)
• Only new equipment is eligible for rebate. Leased equipment/appliances and equipment/appliances included in the purchase of a residence are not eligible to receive rebates.
• Payment will only be issued to the person listed on the HG&E account for the application being submitted.
• Address listed on invoice must match HG&E customer account, if applicable
• HG&E reserves the right to modify or end these rebates at any time.

 

APPLIANCE REBATES: 

Additional Requirements for Appliance Rebates:
• One rebate per appliance type per living unit every three years. Landlords are eligible for up to 4 living units.
• Customer must submit a receipt with application which shows proof of payment and lists the model number, manufacturer, purchase date, purchase price, and store name.
• In addition to the general rebate requirements, please review the equipment-specific eligibility criteria for each appliance type below.

• New clothes dryer must be Energy Star Certified electric clothes dryer with a drum capacity of 7 cubic feet or greater
• Customer must provide sufficient evidence that previous clothes dryer was a natural gas clothes dryer. Please contact HG&E for additional information before applying.

• New clothes dryer must be Energy Star Certified electric heat pump clothes dryer that is replacing a natural gas clothes dryer.
• Customer must provide sufficient evidence that previous clothes dryer was a natural gas clothes dryer. Please contact HG&E for additional information before applying.

$750 - If Replacing Oil or Propane Water Heater: 
• New unit must be Energy Star Certified electric heat pump water heater.

Residential Energy Conservation Program

Connected Homes Program: Earn $5/month for reducing hot water use during various events throughout each month

Additional Requirements:
• Device must be on list of eligible models for Connected Homes Program and also be enrolled in Connected Homes Program.
• Must have Wi-Fi connection enabled
• Must use HG&E for electric heating and/or cooling. (Heating will require electric resistance or heat pumps. Cooling will require Central AC or heat pumps).

Residential Energy Conservation Program

Connected Homes Program: Earn $8/month in the summer and/or $5/month in the winter for reducing heating/cooling use during various events throughout each month

HEATING & COOLING SYSTEM REBATES:

Additional Requirements for Heating and Cooling System Rebates:
• The address where the system is being installed must receive electricity from Holyoke Gas & Electric.
• Rebate amount is determined based on total tons of cooling capacity (1 Ton = 12,000 BTUs).
• One rebate of each type available for any home (including multifamily home with a single owner) per year.
• The condenser and the evaporator coil must be new and replaced together.
• In addition to the general rebate requirements, please review the equipment-specific eligibility criteria for each equipment type below.

WEATHERIZATION REBATES
Additional Requirements for Weatherization Rebates:
• The address where the work has been performed must receive electricity from Holyoke Gas & Electric or use Natural Gas supplied by Holyoke Gas & Electric for space heating.
• One weatherization rebate of each type available for any home (including multifamily home with a single owner) per year.
• A copy of the invoice must be submitted with application. If multiple services were performed, invoice must be itemized by system or service. Invoice/receipt must match name on application and should include the name, license number, address, and phone number of the contractor that completed the installation.
• In addition to the general rebate requirements, please review the service-specific eligibility criteria for each service below.

Insulation 50% up to $2,000
Additional Requirements:
• Customer must have received home energy audit within past 3 years.
• Post Installation form required to be completed by installer and submitted with application. Click here for the post installation form.
Note: If customer is self-installing insulation, only the cost of the material will be covered (at 50% up to $2,000). If the insulation is installed by a licensed contractor, HG&E will provide 50% of the cost of installation and materials up to $2,000).

Recommended Final R-Values:
• Attic Insulation: R49 (Should be between R49-R60)
• Wall Insulation: R18-R20
• Floor Insulation: R30
• Basement Insulation: R15-R19
• Heating and Hot Water Pipe Insulation: R3

Residential Energy Conservation Program

Low Income Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP): An average of $4,500 in funds available for weatherization services (insulation, air sealing, etc) available for eligible households through the WAP program.
