Connected Homes Program

Customer who own an Electric Vehicle (EV) can recieve a free Level 2 Charger or a $450 bill credit, and save $10 per month by enrolling in HG&E’s Connected Homes – EV Charger Program! Through this program, customers are rewarded for using less energy during peak periods, when energy prices are the highest. 

Program Rewards

Participating customers have the opportunity to earn HG&E monthly bill credits ($10/month). In addition, customers can choose one of the following: 

  • Free Level 2 Charger: By enrolling in this program, customers will have the ability to receive a free Wi-Fi enabled Level 2 Charger, which charges an electric vehicle in 4-8 hours, in exchange for allowing HG&E to control the charger during peak times.
  • $450 Bill Credit: For residential customers with an existing eligible Level 2 Charger, HG&E is offering a one-time $450 bill credit for opting into this program. These customers are required to prove their schedule is set outside of peak hours.

How does it work?

If you enroll in the Connected Homes – EV Charger Program, HG&E will have the ability to manage or monitor the energy used by your home EV charger.
Customers who recieve a free Level 2 Charger are required to provide HG&E access to the device through a Wi-Fi connection. HG&E will control customer charging during peak hours (see seasonal schedule below). During these times, if your EV is plugged in, charging will be reduced to a slower rate. As soon as the period has ended, your charger will automatically reset and charge at full speed. Customers are responsible for installation of the Level 2 Charger.

Customers with an existing Level 2 home charger agree to schedule charging outside of peak hours (see seasonal schedule below). HG&E will have the ability to monitor and verify that charging is occurring outside of these windows through HG&E's Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI).

Seasonal Peak Hours

Below are the seasonal hours customers will be required to curtail their charging*:

  • Summer (May 1 - October 31) – Weekdays 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  • Winter (November 1 - April 30) – Weekdays 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM

*Additional emergency hours may occur outside these windows. HG&E will notify customer via preferred electronic method prior to such hours.

The Connected Homes - EV Charger Program allows customers to participate in HG&E’s grid transformation efforts with their own equipment and receive credits for doing so, while also helping to drive down costs for all HG&E customers.
