What is Dig Safe? Where do I call to request a Dig Safe?
What is Dig Safe? Under State Law, all contractors and property owners are required to notify appropriate utility companies before undertaking excavation work.
To aid you in complying with this legislation, member utilities, such as HG&E, have established the Dig Safe system. Through a single telephone call to 1-(888)-DIG-SAFE, contractors can fulfill both state and federal requirements for notification concerning digging, trenching, blasting, demolishing, boring, backfilling, grading, landscaping, or other earth moving operations.
Users of this system can avoid costly damage to underground utility facilities, potential harm to their equipment and workers, and reduce the time and expense associated with notifying all appropriate utility companies.
Once a Dig Safe request is made, member utilities like HG&E are notified to respond to the work area and mark the location of underground facilities. Callers are given a permit number as confirmation of their request.
To learn more about the Dig Safe program, visit the website link below. It also contains an on-line request submission option. Remember, calling before excavation is not only the law... it just may save your life.
